>> good morning. thank you for joining us. i am heather childers. >> i am heather nauert. it is friday november the 2nd. thank you for waking up with us and watching "fox & friends first". >> we are following three big stories for you this morning. while people slowly begin to assess the damage from sandy, a gas crisis is emerging. people lining up for hours to fill up only to find out there is no fuel and no relief in sight. anna kooiman is live in staten island. >> details are emerging about the deadly attack in libya. senior u.s. counter tearrism officials who felt they were being kept out of the loop.

the state department never gave that stand down order that we have reported. all of this while the men chosen to protect the u.s. ambassador could not be trusted. peter doocy has the story from washington. >> we are four-days away from the presidential election. it is back to business as both candidates take swings at each other and the lathes jobs number. doug luzader is live with more on that. that's the big question what will the unemployment rate be? this is what economists are expecting 7.9 percent. if that's the case that is a slight increase over last month. both of these guys are preparing for that it will depend on the overall size. >> i think it's a confidence

game when people go to the poll on tuesday. they are going to ask themselves do i feel good about the future? do i feel good about barack obama moving forward or is mitt romney right we are not moving forward we are moving in the right direction. >> the president address ago crowd in colorado yesterday and say he carried four years ago where the unemployment rate is worse than the national average making the case for continuing a strong government role. >> today there are thousands of workers building long lasting batteries and solar technology and wind turbines all across the country. jobs that weren't there four years ago. >> mitt romney meantime in virginia where the unemployment rate is lower than the national average. he ridiculed the president for his plan to create a new cabinet position a secretary of business. >> i don't think what we need is another government bureaucrat that supposedly knows something abouton creation.

i think it would be helpful to have a president who understands job creation. the new unemployment numbers come out in about 3 and a half hours. they expect 121,000 jobs created last month if that's the case. that is lower than the monthly aying we have seen so far this year. thank you very much, doug, we appreciate it. >> there are new details about the benghazi terror attack including claims that the state department decided not to send a rapid response team. peter doocy is live with that story. >> the latest piece of the puzzle passing it on to the terrorists. they found letters that were drafted to be sent to the libyan

foreign affairs. part of one letter described a sus bish shoes guard. he was photographing the inside of the u.s. special mission and furthermore part of the police unit sent to protect the mission. that table was drafted on september is 1th. john mccain says it's the latest probably not the last bit of information. all along it was not a spontaneous attack. >> it was a classic scandal where almost every day or every few days another shoe drops. it could be as bad as watergate but one of the veterans said nobody died in watergate. they have got pint. this latest bit of information comes one day after we learn the security team in benghazi sent a secret table to the state department dated august 16th saying with their small security force they would not be able to fend off a terrorist attack. it is direct evidence that

will not relie on the evidence. it will not defend on the consulate. it is direct that it will the fbi is still conducting their investigation and the president isn't participating in the investigation. he is anticipating the results that can happen and lessons they learn to ensure it won't happen again. >> peter doocy reporting live for us. >> deadly overnight. the death toll stands at 90 and the number could in fact climb. more than 4 and a half million people are still without power. most of them are new york and new jersey. many have had to close because they have run out leaving a lot of drivers panicking and also waiting in long lines for miles

and miles just to see if they can fill their tank. one of the hardest hit places is staten island. flood waters are still filling homes while strong winds are ripping homes off of their foundation. with a look devastation is anna kooiman. we know it is a tough area right there. how do things look to you this morning? >> it is wild. it looks like a war zone. we are 100 feet from the water here. we clearly got -- leaves got stuffed up in the storm surge. they are on cars an front yards not far from people's homes in their driveway tear rising this neighborhood. homeland security secretary janet nepal tano plans ton touring this area. residents and town leaders say aid has still to come to staten island. >> i have nowhere to go. i don't have no clothes. the clothes i have on they gave

to me at the evacuation center. >> four-days after sandy slammed staten island trash piling up mattresses and couches line the streets. the borough president says hundreds of people are still in shelters. when those are no longer operating many won't have any where to go because their homes were obliterated. i went to a shelter monday night after the storm. people were coming in with no socks. no shoes. there was desperate need. their houses were destroyed. they were crying. where was the red cross? >> well, one tragic story that is giving heavy hearts to people across the nation. two young boys 2-year-old brandon and connor moore were found dead in a marsh 100 feet from each other after being sucked into the relentless flood waters as brenda moore tried to escape her sufficient during the height of the storm. those boys were among the 19 victims found dead in staten

island out of the nearly 40 in new york city five boroughs. i can also tell you that police are stressing these numbers could still be on the rise in flood waters under debris as well. it changes as the medical examiner determines some of the deaths were not relate to do hurricane sandy. back to you. >> anna kooiman in staten island. their hands slipped from the mother's grasp. >> she tried to hold on to them as long as she could. >> the top five stories making news at this hour. military trucks will become polling centers in parts of new jersey. they will be parked on regular polling places that lost power. voters will get paper ballots to pull out. they are extending the deadlines for mail in ballots until today. the deadline was tuesday. >> let the whole world watch.

that's what lawyers for the five alleged 9-11 conspirators want. they asked leon pineda to offer national television broadcast. this comes less than two weeks after they made the same request to an army judge. prosecutors arguing tv's broadcasts are for gibidden dur a war trial. >> firefighters in kentucky still trying to put out the fire burning at the site of a derailed train. people who live within a mile of the area they remain stranded at shelters while others who live further away have been allowed back home. the blaze started while firefighters were trying to separate two rail cars carrying toxic chemicals. three were hurt. >> kurt schilling is headed for a lawsuit and striking out in business. >> the board's legal action was taken to rectify a grave injustice put on the people of rhode island.

>> lincoln chase see announcing the state is suing schilling and partners. the video temperature 38 studios got a $75 million loan guarantee but filed for bankruptcy in june of 2010. the suit claims the company failed to disclose known risks and misled the state. schilling couldn't be reached for comment. >> joe biden making time for david letterman last night. he put his stamp on the top ten list, good things about early voting. >> if you vote early you don't have to pay taxes. i am being told that's not accurate. looking to mingle? find that someone special in the early voting line. honestly don't you want this election over with already? >> that is your 5@5:00. >> i want the don't have to pay taxes night. >> we are hours away from the final jobs report being released

>> welcome back. hurricane sandy cutting off gas to drivers and those looking to keep their generators running. lines in the tri-state area they are backing up for miles. take a look as people, they are beginning to panic. one man in new york city was arrested after he pulled a gun out on other drivers in order to cut the line. carol lehey she is one of thousands who have been waiting. she has been sitting at a shell station in madison, new jersey for three hours. she joins us now by phone.

are you there, carol? >> yes, i am. >> thank you so much for joining us. when did you get in line this morning? >> at 2:00 this morning. >> and i understand you are still waiting. >> yes, i am. >> how long are you prepared to wait and what do you need the gas for? is it for work, is it for a generator? what's it for? >> my husband's car and he has to leave for work at 6:30 this morning. so i am trying to figull it up r him. >> how close are you to the front of the line now? >> i am about 20 cars back. >> 20 cars back and you still have a long line behind you as well? >> it's extremely long. it goes on forever. there's so many people waiting. >> describe for us the situation there in terms of other people that are waiting in line? are you guys talking to each other, what's going on? set the screen for me? >> initially some of us were talking to each other exchanging information. everyone was basically saying

the owner is expecting a shipment in before 6:00 this morning. but he couldn't be any more specific than that. and then we all kind of went back to our cars and we are sitting in our cars with the motor off and we are just sitting here with the jitters. it's cold, it's dark, we are tired. i don't even feel very coherent right now. i am doing my best. >> we certainly hope that when you do make it up to the front of the line there's still gas left and hopefully you will get a little more information as the morning continues. and i hope that your husband, you said you are waiting on the gas for him. i hope he really appreciates it. >> anything i do he appreciates. he's a keeper. i have a real good guy. >> you are a keeper, too. he owes you big xfor this one. carol lehey thank you this morning. >> can i interrupt a minute. >> yeah, go heyed. >> i would like to say i have

as white house chief of staff for ronald reagan and george h.w. bush explains why tuesday is all about the economy. >> i can tell you the most important thing about america has been through out its history its economy. we can't be strong militarily, diplomatically or in any other way and politically unless we are strong economically. we now have a debt to gdp that is just out of sight. we to figure out some way to deal with that. >> robert gray from the fox business network joins us this morning. what are we expecting from these jobs numbers? >> not a lot different than last month. keep in mind for october sandy not going to effect the numbers that much. we will see a lot of that next month. let's take a look. here are the estimates we are looking for. 8:30 eastern time these are the numbers 125,000 jobs created the

unemployment rate to jump 7.9 percent. unemployment rate a big jump down 7.8 percent here. a couple of key things to watch. 125,000 right on. government not adding anything in there. they are looking for manufacturing jobs to contract but not by as much as the month before and the amount of estimates you and i were joking off air before we came in how many estimates were out there. they range anywhere from 30,000 up to 168,000. economists have many hands. >> going through all of these right here looks like the unemployment number will pick up slightly that will not be good for president obama heading into election. >> many people are looking for work. this is one last talk a few days away from the ballot box. >> as it goes up or the unemployment number goes down that could mean more money dropping out of the work again.

to give you an idea of the political swing in that portion of the state consider this. in 2004 strickland a democrat won reelection to the house seat in that district for president a republican won, george bush. >> it was weeks before millions in the northeast get their power back including my house. why aren't utility crews being asked to help and being turned away. a big night for country music. we have our highlights from the cma's. performer of the year.

exactly the case. peter doocy joins us live in washington with the latest on that. good morning, peter. this is pretty explosive stuff. >> it is. hours before the american consulate in benghazi was attacked by terrorists one of the guards there saw a member of the libyan police force behaving in a suspicious way. they drafted a letter to the head of the libyan ministry of foreign affairs and part of it said this person was photographing the inside of the u.s. special mission and furthermore this person was sent to protect the mission. this letter was found by journalists on october 26th just a few days ago inside the compound along with ambassador stephens personal copy of the new yorker among other things. something else we found out in the last 24-hours that says the state department will not send the porn team with the bombings of the u.s. embassy in tanzania.

it will allow the fbi much sooner from the 24 day days it will eventually take. nation nag security advisor tommy dieter says the most senior people in government worked on the issue the minute it happened that includes the secretary of defense chairman of the joint chief secretary of state national security advisor et cetera the deputies committee the second in command at the relevant national security agencies met at least once and more often twice a day to manage the issues. republican senator john mccain says when you add all of the evidence up the administration must have known all along this 9-11 attack was not spontaneous. >> this was a classic scandal where almost every day or every few days the shoe drops. i think it could be bad as watergate. one of the veterans said yes but nobody died in watergate.

officials rnc is asking nevada and five other states to recalibrate all machines. they have additional technicians. they are asking for that and to use signs and verbal reminders to make sure the ballots are correct. nevada secretary of state meantime says there is no evidence of this and calls the accusations irresponsible. >> we are learning new details about the new york city nanny accused of killing two little children in her care. according to the new york post y jocelyn or at theing ga telling cops was enraged as the the family asked they are to do housework to learn more money. she was unhappy about doing five extra hours each week. she woke up from a medically induced coma later this week she gave the statement. >> they turned away to helping the hurricane devastated state of new jersey because they are not union? workers from three companies say

that their help was turned down by new jersey crews since they are not union employees. they are now going to help people on new york's long island. >> we will take them on long island. >> president obama's jobs council but he is still supporting mitt romney for president. the romney campaign announcing one of the latest backers is intel ceo paul otellini. records show otellini donated 55,000 to mitt romney's campaign. in the past he criticized president obama for not doing enough to create jobs and also for his stimulus plan. the president's jobs council hasn't met since january. country music biggest stars gathered in nashville last night for the 4th annual cma awards. they didn't forget the devastation brought on by sandy. >> tonight's show is dedicated to new york, new jersey. all of our prayers go out to the

last time are afraid to admit they maybe made a mistake. it's better to be overly defensive and just say, well, i am voting for him again. i just tried to give people when i was at the rnc the idea that maybe they could -- they should think about other alternatives and rather than just voting a party line. of course a lot of people who are on the republican side voted for him last time will probably have regrets. if you have regrets think about somebody else. somebody who offers something else like a business background. governor romney has had a great business background. he's extremely well educated. he has several degrees from harvard. including business and including a law degree. he's just kind of a perfect guy for the job. and i think along with paul ryan

you have a great team that's out there ready to go. i think they can correct a lot of the problems we have had. >> eastwood also saying last night there are a whole lot of conservatives in hollywood who do not speak out about politics because they are worried about not getting jobs. >> interesting. >> the time is 43 after the top of the hour. still ahead we are hours away from the final jobs report before the election. we are breaking down the expectations and what all of this could mean. we will have that ahead with robert gray from the fox business network. there is supposed to be fighting in hockey we all expect that. maybe the two teams didn't get a message it's not supposed to be fight club.

looking. what does it sound like the report is going to say? >> doesn't look like the needle is going to move they like the trim line where things are going with the great recession with the president. unemployment now changed during his tenure now or time to switch and go with governor romney. that's what it is coming down to unless we get some kind of big surprise. adding 155 jobs each month to keep up to tread water. unemployment rate kicked up to 7.9 percent. a lot of controversy when it drops down to 7.8 percent. remember that is a different survey the jobs security is coming from payroll data and where as the unemployment rate is actually a phone survey of 60,000 people. a smaller survey there when you are looking at that. one of the key things to watch

as far as the economy going is aying hour average hourly earni. not really keeping up with inflation right now. that is a problem with our consumer driven economy. >> robert gray the fox business network. those numb >> almost 10 minutes to the top of the hour. while we wait for the jobs number there is already bad news about october. layoffs in a record high. which industries were hit the hardest? that is up next. she was a multi millionaire and didn't know it. a lottery winner finally claims her ticket five months later. what took her so long? we will find out. peter doocy to see what's coming up on fox and friends. >> kicks off 12 minutes from now. geraldo rivera will be here. scott walker talking politics and frank luns is going to do

those looking for their pets should check out animal control facilities and local animal shelters. there is also a facebook page called hurricane sandy lost and found pets. heather? >> more bad news for jobs. the number of planned layoffs have gone up 41 percent. that's a five month high. industries hit the hardest? let's talk to diane macedo from the fox business network. never a story we like to report. challenger gray and christmas say they plan to layoff 47,720 people. in october that is up 41 percent from september. up 12 percent from a year ago. one of the major businesses getting hit is the auto industry with ford alone announcing 11,000 layoffs. those will largely effect workers in europe not here in the u.s. but john challenger the out

placement firm ceo shows that indicate how vulnerable u.s. is to the situation in europe. the consumer products industry also announced 5,000 cuts and electronic companies came in shy of 4500 with both sectors siting a slow down in business and consumer spending. on the outside if you look at the year so far we are down more than 88,000 compared to how many total layoffs had been announced by this point last year. the challenger says the last three months of the year tend to see the heavier layoff activity. the third quarter earning season does not bowed well for the things to come. the big indicator like robert was talking about on how the jobs market is doing comes in today and that is the government monthly jobs report. they will be watching this one closely and will have the numbers on fbn as they come across. >> we will be watching the numbers closer later today. the time is 6 minutes from the top of the hour. there is supposed to be fighting in hockey.
